“The standard you walk past is the standard you accept.”

With these words of barely contained fury former Army Chief David Morrison made headlines around the world in 2013. His impassioned YouTube speech speaking out against the degradation against women in the Australian Army went viral.

Since then, Lt-General Morrison (retd) has regularly spoken out about domestic and sexual violence against women, has served as a White Ribbon ambassador and last week was announced as our Australian of the Year for 2016.

Lt-General Morrison has pledged to continue the important conversation Rosie Batty started about domestic violence and gender equality at a national level.

Lt-General Morrison’s message about unacceptable behaviour

With three women already dead from violence in 2016 continuing to raise our collective voices against violence against women is more important than ever.

As you Unite in White Toowoomba, we urge you to remember our Australian of the Year’s words: the standard you walk past is the standard you accept.

Let’s make 2016 the year we change society standards about violence for good.
